The Mail P.I. Chrome Extension Is Here
After a few months of development, we've shipped the first version of the Mail P.I. Chrome extension — and we're genuinely excited about this one.
The forwarding mechanic has always worked well, but we heard the same thing from a lot of people: switching between tabs, finding the right address, forwarding the email — it's a few too many steps when you're staring at something suspicious and just want a quick answer. The extension solves that.
How It Works
When you're looking at an email in your browser and something feels off, you click the Mail P.I. extension. It pulls the email content and sends it for analysis — same dual AI engine, same 0-100 risk score, same plain-English breakdown you'd get from forwarding. Just faster and without leaving your inbox.
The exact mechanism for capturing the email content differs slightly by platform. In Gmail and Yahoo Mail, we tap into their print view, which renders the full email cleanly with headers, body text, and metadata laid out in a structured way. In Outlook on the web, we read the message directly from the page itself. Different approaches under the hood, same result: the content gets extracted reliably without you doing anything extra.
Supported Platforms
Gmail — Works with Google's standard webmail interface. If you're using Gmail in Chrome, the extension is ready to go.
Yahoo Mail — Full support for Yahoo's webmail platform.
Microsoft Outlook (web) — Works with Outlook on the web. If your company uses Microsoft 365 and you access email through the browser, this covers you.
These three cover the majority of people who check email in a browser, which is why we started here. More platforms are on the roadmap based on what we hear from users.
Why This Matters for Quick Checks
The forwarding tool is still the right choice when you want the deepest analysis — it handles attachments, full headers, and everything the AI needs to do a thorough job. But not every suspicious email warrants that level of scrutiny. Sometimes you just want a fast gut-check on something before you decide whether to reply.
That's what the extension is for. Same analysis, less friction, right there in your browser.
One limitation worth knowing up front: the extension checks the sender, subject, and body text, but it doesn't open or analyze attachments. If a suspicious email has one — an invoice PDF, a "shared document" link, anything like that — forward the whole email to check@mailpi.app instead for the full treatment.
One more thing worth being upfront about: free accounts get 1 scan per day through the extension, drawn from the same daily free-scan pool as forwarding. Mail P.I. subscribers get full daily access. See plans →
We Want Your Feedback
This is version one, and we're being upfront about that. It works well across the supported platforms, but there are edge cases we haven't seen yet and things we'll improve as more people use it.
If you try it and something doesn't work the way you'd expect — a platform behaves oddly, the result seems off, anything — please tell us. The feedback form in the extension goes directly to us and we read every submission. That's how the forwarding tool got better, and it's how this will too.
